UNIVERSITY EDUCATION AND ACADEMIC DEGREES
1 Sept. 2010 – 28 February 2011: visiting Professor at the
Faculty of Mathematics-Physics, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic
since April 1, 2007: Professor at the
Pedagogical University in Krakow (PU Krakow)
April 11, 2005: Doctor of habilitation (Dr. hab.),
Faculty of Physics and Computer Sciences, AGH
University of Science and Technology, Kraków, Poland.
Title of the habilitation thesis: “The metal-insulator phase transition of
magnetite surfaces studied by low-energy ion scattering”. Referees: Prof. dr hab. H. Szymczak, Prof. dr hab. Z. Kakol, Prof. dr hab. A. Ciszewski.
Original Polish name of the academic degree: Doctor of
habilitation in physics science (doktor habilitowany nauk fizycznych – fizyka).
April 21, 1993: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
in Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, Amsterdam
University, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Title of
the Ph.D. thesis: “Magnetic transitions
in NdMn2 and related compounds”. PhD promotor:
Prof. J.J.M. Franse. Co-promotors:
Dr. P.E. Brommers, Prof. Dr. T.D. Hien.
Referees: Prof. K.H.J. Buschow, Prof. F.R. de Boer.
I was the first person from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam who earned
a PhD degree in Holland. The PhD promotion was shown on the news-channel of
Amsterdam television.
October 1992: Dutch M.Sc. diplome,
Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, Amsterdam University, Amsterdam, The
Netherlands. Title of MSc thesis: “Phase transitions”.
Due to a mismatch of the university-education system between Holland and
Vietnam and a lack of a related agreement between the two Universities at that
time, the Vietnamese M.Sc. diploma was not considered to be equivalent to the
Dutch one. It, on the other hand, is accepted to be equivalent in all
Eastern-European countries. For fulfilling the Dutch standard
for a Ph.D. promotion, the Dutch M.Sc. degree was required.
November 1988 – May 1993: Ph.D. student, Van der
Waals-Zeeman Institute, Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, Amsterdam University,
Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
September 12, 1980: Diplome in Physics - equiv. M. Sc. diplome,
Hanoi University, Faculty of Physics, Hanoi, Vietnam. Title of MSc thesis: “Pendulum magnetometer at low temperatures
and Intermetallic compounds RCu2”. M.Sc. thesis
advisor: Prof. Than Duc Hien,
Cryogenic Laboratory (CryLab), Faculty of Physics.
CryoLab was built up and financed by the Dutch
government in the scope of Netherlands University Foundation for International
Cooperation (NUFFIC), under the so-called VH-13 project.
